Sichuan lies in western China and eastern Tibet. It is the borderland of traditional China and Tibet, home to hundreds of mountains, among which many are unclimbed. East of Sichuan Province are lower mountains and hills and plains. Starting from Chengdu towards west it reaches Tibetan Plateau. The altitude gets over 4000 meters by average.
