About this Expedition

Mt. Jinyin is a 6410-m mountain located by the south of Minya Konka Range. Its north is Mt. Snalian (), Mt. Longshan and Mt. Gongga. Jinyin means “gold and silver”, which comes from the golden and silver glows of this mountain in the morning light by its eastface in Hailuogou Glacier Park. Mt. Jinyin can be a perfect 6000er to train due to its medium-level of difficulty, relatively low risk, training of mixed climbing techniques of different terrains, and relatively easier access and quicker evacuation. After the shutdown of Mt. Chola, another good 6000er, Mt. Jinyin has become the second best 6000er to climb.

What to Expect

Medium-Difficult Climb

Total approach is around 20km from start to the summit with elevation gain from around 2700m to 6400m for total 3700m. Elevation gain is similar to the north face of Mt. Everest. The climb itself is with medium technical level and hard climb starts from around C3. It takes around 9-12 days total from Chengdu. Its difficulty level is higher than Mt. Chola, Mt. Banji and Mt. Nama.

Longer Climbing Season and Lower Risks

In relative this climb that goes from the south face of Mt. Jinyin, that usually has a more stable weather condition than its east side although it is still a high altitude mountain that bad weather could happen. Its quick route into the mountain from road provides quick evacuation if necessary. Among the other climbable 6000-m mountains in China, Mt. Jinyin has relatively lower risk level for climbing. It provides good training for anyone who’s aiming for higher peaks.

A good train of different climbing techniques

Its all-season snow-covered south face provides excellent training for high altitude mountain climb that one has chance to train different techniques on snow and glacier climb. From C1 to the summit there are ice crevices, ice walls, towers, etc and other different ice terrains that you can have good experience on training. From road end to C1 it is good train of walking on different terrain including animal trails, rocks and debris, etc.
