Danba is the hometown of Jiarong Tibetans in Sichuan Province. It is famous for its many stone watchtowers as “Diaolou” and many beautiful Tibetan villages. From Danba one can get to mountains such as Xiaqiangla, Yala and Jiajin Mountains.
Danba is a county-level town in Garze and it has a decent hospital. There are also many hotels available as it is a main tourist place in western Sichuan. There are also shops where you can find food and vegetables. Danba has a population of around 15,000.
Danba is located 320km west to the capital city Chengdu of Sichuan Province. By driving it takes 7-8 hours. At present the best way to get to Danba from Chengdu is by driving.
Danba Weather and Climate
There are some good hotels are available in Danba. And there are more under construction. The so called good hotels are 2-3 star hotels with modern facilities and some with western toilet, decent and clean rooms. These hotels are usually located in the town of Danba. Remember that the town of Danba is town of buildings stretched into four different rivers valleys. There are also some lower level accommodations in the town of Danba, that like 1-2 star hotels with basic facilities. The 3 star hotels will have decent rooms with air-con and proper shower facility and even western toilet. Rooms in a local guesthouse are more basic but clean and have attached bathroom usually with squat toilet but with hot shower.
Dangling
Dangling is the name of a village called Dangling. It refers to the lakes, mountains and hot springs around the village. Dangling is located in Bian’er Town of Danba. It is 68 northwest to Danba Town. It is home to Xiaqiangla mountains.In Dangling there are local families providing basic accommodations for visitors. Despite there is a new road being built up the accommodations are still very basic and with limited options. There is electricity in the village but internet can be unreliable.he mountains here in Dangling is in general called Xiaqiangla Mountains and it is part of Daxueshan Range and located by the north of the Daxueshan Range. The highest peak here is called Xiaqiangla that is 5470 meters Xiaqiangla means mountain of fairy and beauty. It is part of the holy mountains in local Jiarong Tibetan Culture. There are some 28 mountains that are over 5000 meters.
