Mount Siguniang is a massif of mountains very close to a big city Chengdu. Within half day’s drive you can get there. Mount Siguniang is one of the most popular adventure travel destinations in China and loved by many active travelers.
Rilong Town is called Rilong Zhen in Chinese. It is a village at the base of Mt. Siguniang and the stopover place for people who go to Mt Siguniang. By now Rilong is called Siguniangshan Zhen (Siguniang Shan Town). Rilong is located 200km west to the city of Chengdu with now only 4 hours drive to get to. There is also bus available to get to Rilong from Chengdu. In another word Rilong refers to Mt. Siguniang and Mt. Siguniang more often used by travelers but local people use Rilong more often.
At Rilong you can find hotels, restaurants, gear shops with basic camping and trekking gears. Rilong itself is just a cluster of houese and shops along the road that goes further west to Danba and Tagong. Here at Rilong you will find people don’t speak much English but good Chinese. Rilong is also where you find porter team for your trekking. Food is with limited option but if you are not fussy about food you can always find something if you are preparing food for your mountain trip. Gas canisters and simple stoves are also available but limited in both sorts and amounts.
Rilong is the place where you use as a stopover place before you go into the mountains. Altitude at Rilong is between 3000 meters and 3100 meters,, a perfect altitude for acclimating. Please note that the entrance of Shuangqiao is already not in Rilong, and the altitude of entrance of Shuangqiao is at below 3000 meters.
Shuangqiao Valley
Shuangqiaogou Valley is a zigzagged, deep and quiet valley stretching over 35km and acess to Mt. Abi, Mt. Yutu, Mt. Lieren, Mt. Seerdengpu, Mt. Potala, Mt. Yangtianwo, Mt. Riyuebaojing, Mt. Shuangfeng, Mt. Xuanwu, etc. Shuangqiao is also home to one of the most popular ice-climibing places in China during winter time. The road is available inside Shuangqiao that can easily take you up to any elevation til 3800m to the end of the valley.
Changping Valley
Along this 29-kilometer-long valley, Changping is home to many big mountains in Siguniang. There is no road available in the valley. Everything has to be brought up by human or by packhorses. Changping is the access to mountains including Mt. Siguniang, Sanfeng, Mt. Pomiu, Mt. Daogou, Mt. Yangmantai, Mt. Camel, Mt. Yanggangzi, Mt. Chibu and eastface of Mt. Seerdengpu.
Haizi Valley
Haizi refers lake in Chinese. And Haizigou, as the name implies, is the valley of lakes. The most beautiful one is Dahaizi Lake which is located at the elevation of 3800 meters. Covering more than 20 hectares, Dahaizi Lake is surrounded by mountains, including the Siguniang Mountain. Haizi Valley is the access to Dafeng and Erfeng.
Jiesi Valley
Jiesi Valley is not officically part of the Siguniang Parks but rather a wild place. It is located to the west of the valleys of Siguniang. Car can get to very close to the mountains including westface of Mt. Abi, Mt. Longji, Mt. Maya, etc.
